About Mr Ashworth.
Training and experience
Mr Ashworth trained in ophthalmology and then completed a specialist fellowship in oculoplastic surgery: operations on the eyelids, the tear ducts and the eye socket.
He works as a consultant in the NHS alongside his private practice, so he sees the full range of eyelid problems, from the routine to the complex.
How he works
He sees every patient himself, from the first consultation to the final check. He takes time to explain what he finds, including when surgery is not the best option.
You leave every appointment with written information, and you are never asked to decide on the day.
Teaching
He teaches trainee eye surgeons and speaks at professional meetings on eyelid surgery.
What he treats.
The six most common reasons patients come to see him.
Eye closure surgery for facial palsy
Helps the eye close fully to protect its surface.
Eye removal and artificial eye
For a painful or blind eye, with care through to a fitted artificial eye.
Eye socket lump biopsy and removal
Diagnoses, and where needed removes, a lump behind the eye.
Broken eye socket repair
Repairs the thin bone around the eye after an injury.
Orbital decompression
Makes room behind the eye when it is pushed forward.
Tear duct opening procedure
Widens a narrowed drainage opening in the lid.
